Gaudete Sunday- the pink candle

This coming Sunday, December 14, is Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday in Advent.  It gets its name from the Latin word gaudete meaning “rejoice”, and it was the first word in the Introit for this day’s Mass . It is on this Sunday that the rose colored candle in the Advent Wreath is lit, and one of two Sundays in which rose vestments (often appearing pink) may be worn.

Calm in the storm

This time of year is often one of the busiest, with shopping, family gatherings, and work parties all competing for our time and attention.  If, during this Christmas season, you find yourself needing a quiet place to find the calm in the midst of this festive storm, St. Mark’s has sung Compline on Sundays at 7:30pm, and Evensong on Wednesdays at 6:15pm.  Come, pray, worship, and find the peace of Christ within.

Want to serve on the Vestry?

Each year at our annual meeting in January, St. Mark’s elects four people to serve on the vestry for a three year term.  The vestry is the governing body of the church, and it is responsible for budgets and buildings, and helping the Priest with the vision for the future.
