Dear St. Mark’s,
As many of you know, when a rector leaves a congregation, there are clear expectations that he or she cannot return within the first year, and after that must be invited back by the next rector. In addition, the outgoing rector can no longer be a “pastor” to the congregation he or she is leaving. This healthy set of boundaries allows for a church to move forward with its search and call of the next rector, rather than looking back. No doubt, this will be among the harder parts of this process for me, as I have come to love you all very much, and will miss you in the coming months.
In order to honor these healthy boundaries, and yet also stay in touch, I have setup a new Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/revjesseperkins. So many of the pastoral relationships we have happen on Facebook these days- it is a great tool for communication and relationship. However, that presents a challenge when trying these healthy leave-taking boundaries. Hopefully this will allow us to accomplish both staying in touch, and allowing St. Mark’s to move forward.
God bless, and I will see you on Sunday.
