How to Join St. Mark’s

The first step in joining St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is to begin attending services on Sunday mornings.  Almost everything we do is open to guests and non-members, including Communion.  Click to get service times and directions to the church.

After attending for a time, you may feel that you want to make St. Mark’s your spiritual home.  Baptism and Confirmation are the next steps in joining our church.

For Episcopalians, the sacrament of Holy Baptism is the full initiation into the church.  It establishes a permanent bond between God and the person.  Baptism is the next step in joining St. Mark’s.  Many parents have their children baptized as infants, but adult baptisms are not uncommon.

The Episcopal Church accepts baptisms from most Christian traditions, provided they were performed using the Trinitarian formula (in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit).  Baptism is only needed once; if you have not been baptized and would like to be, contact Father Jesse.

Confirmation 2010

After baptism, Episcopalians are confirmed into the church.  Confirmation is the process by which you make an adult commitment to Christ and become a member.  It is a decision to worship and serve Christ in this place.

At St. Mark’s, we usually have one Confirmation service each year where the Bishop of Arkansas comes and confirms those wanting to make that adult profession of faith.  Confirmation is necessary in order to hold an elected position in the Episcopal Church.

To be Confirmed, one must participate in Confirmation classes, usually consisting of six sessions taught by the priest.  During these classes, you would learn about the Episcopal Church’s history, teachings, and worship.  If you are already baptized and would like to join the church, contact Father Jesse to signup for the next Confirmation class.
